  • Technical and programme management support to deliver scalable environmentally, financially, and institutionally feasible models.
  • Designing and implementing community-level initiatives to empower stakeholders through high quality, affordable services.
  • Redefining global policy on the governance and economics of water.
  • Synthesising and disseminating actionable knowledge on policy and practices.

Featured Projects

  • City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) (2018-2024)This project, guided by the Tiruchirappalli City Corporation and delivered by a consortium of partners led by IIHS, improved sanitation outcomes in Tiruchirappalli across the full cycle of sanitation, focusing on service delivery to the poor and marginalised. It mainstreamed sanitation into existing central, state and corporation initiatives, to showcase innovations and systematically document and share learnings, enabling replication. The project was funded by the Gates Foundation.
  • Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP) (2015-2025)This IIHS-led project, funded by the Gates Foundation, strengthened faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) along the full cycle of sanitation in Tamil Nadu. By establishing a Technical Support Unit (TSU) within the state government, it piloted faecal sludge management solutions, informed policy, and scaled infrastructure designs. Outcomes of this initiative included a state-wide investment plan, urban clustering for efficient resource use, improvement of safety standards, and integration of sewage treatment into sludge management. It also drove behaviour change campaigns and private-sector engagement.
