Transport and Mobility

The SSI works towards promoting access, equity, safety, and decarbonisation of urban transport systems, and providing support to transit-oriented development (TOD).

This work focuses on:

  • Place-based assessments to inform evidence-based solutions.
  • Technical assistance on TOD and multi-modal integration.
  • Capacity development to support transport sector transformation.
  • Engaging with intelligent transport systems and resilient transport infrastructure.

  • Bengaluru Metro Rail: Supporting integrated and sustainable urban development along the blue line metro corridor (2021-2024)IIHS was part of the Technical Assistance consortium preparing transit-oriented development (TOD), multi-modal integration (MMI), capacity building, and communications plans for the blue line metro corridor in Bengaluru. Work included GIS data collation, spatial analysis, development control regulations, affordable housing planning, economic modelling for land value capture (LVC), and capacity building. IIHS led communications planning, public participation, and stakeholder engagement. The project was conducted with Directorate of Urban Land & Transport and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
  • Sustainable Urban Mobility (2022-2023)This initiative built understanding of sustainable urban mobility issues, identified effective practices, and created resources for capacity building in higher education technical institutions. The vision was to develop a solutions-oriented approach to urban mobility. It was supported by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) and Villgro Foundation.
