Transport and Mobility

The SED works towards shaping urban regions’ economic geographies, facilitating agglomerations, public–private finance and investments, and long-term cross-scale urban transitions.

 

This work focuses on:

  • Highways and infrastructure corridors shaping India’s urban growth and transition.
  • Transit-oriented development at city, city–region, and regional scales.
  • Land-based financing, and land value capture for transport and mobility infrastructure.
  • Advisories on transport and mobility networks, and linkages between workplaces and home.

Featured Projects

  • Bengaluru Metro Rail: Supporting integrated and sustainable urban development along the blue line metro corridor (2021-2024)IIHS was part of the Technical Assistance consortium preparing transit-oriented development (TOD), multi-modal integration (MMI), capacity building, and communications plans for the blue line metro corridor in Bengaluru. Work included GIS data collation, spatial analysis, development control regulations, affordable housing planning, economic modelling for land value capture (LVC), and capacity building. IIHS led communications planning, public participation, and stakeholder engagement. The project was conducted with Directorate of Urban Land & Transport and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
  • Transit-oriented development advisory for Delhi–Haryana RRTS (2022-2024)IIHS was part of a team advising the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on transit-oriented development and multi-modal integration for the Rail Rapid Transit System (RRTS) running from Delhi–Gurugram–SNB–Alwar. IIHS developed an affordable housing strategy to promote inclusive, sustainable, and transit-oriented development along the corridor. This project was supported by the World Bank.
