An interdisciplinary urban studies journal from the Global South
Urbanisation is a peer-reviewed biannual journal anchored at IIHS and published by Sage Publications India. It aims to publish comparative as well as collaborative interdisciplinary scholarship that will illuminate the global urban condition, with a firm footprint in the Global South. The journal is included in abstracting and indexing databases such as DeepDyve, Dutch-KB, EBSCO Discovery Service, EBSCO: Urban Studies Abstracts, J-Gate, and Portico.
Published since 2016, Urbanisation rethinks who an urban scholar is, what counts as ‘theory’, what makes a method ‘robust’, and who the ‘audience’ is. It does so by conceptualising ‘practice’ as a domain of knowledge production, refusing the assumed ‘theory–practice’ divides and distinctions between academic work and ‘grey literature’, seeking reflexive contributions that write from practice rather than just narrate it, and experiments with multiple forms of writing.
