IIHS University Library’s ongoing exhibition, exploring the idea of the campus as more than just an academic setting, and highlighting how its design, ecology, and everyday practices shape the lives of communities, will conclude at the end of September.
A campus is a master plan for placemaking—a spatial ensemble of buildings, landscape, and infrastructure to support collective purposes of learning, working, researching, and innovating. Once an academic archetype, the campus has evolved into a flexible framework adopted by a wide range of institutions—business districts, cultural precincts, and healthcare hubs.
This exhibition is a curated selection of books and master plans to trace institutional histories and architectural designs of campuses across the globe. It reflects on architectural designs envisioned by architects and planners that continue to evolve in response to shifting social imaginaries.
